Ives Concert Park to offer free July 4 concert

DANBURY, CONN. —   Break out the red, white and blue for a free concert by the U.S. Air Force Band of Liberty at 2 p.m. on Sunday, July 4, at the Ives Concert Park on the Western Connecticut State University Westside campus, 43 Lake Ave. Extension in Danbury. The performers, a group of professional military musicians stationed at Hanscom Air Force Base in Massachusetts, have been performing in the northeastern U.S. for more than 25 years.

The afternoon event will feature a color guard and local veterans groups, as well as some awe-inspiring surprises. The 40-piece concert band will perform popular, classical and patriotic selections, including a piece by native composer Charles Edward Ives, the concert park’s namesake.

Technical Sgt. Jon Linker, a trumpeter in the band, promised an afternoon of fun for everyone.

“No matter what your musical tastes, from the classics to pop, from Broadway to swing, this group of musicians will delight and entertain,” Linker said. “With a mix of dazzling vocalists and instrumental soloists, this is a once-in-a-lifetime show you won’t want to miss.

“This will be a celebration suitable for the entire family,” Linker continued, “with a high-energy extravaganza guaranteed to leave you on the edge of your seat.”

Guests at the concert are allowed to bring blankets and chairs. Food items may be brought into Ives Concert Park, but all beverages must be purchased at the venue, cash only.
